As the first post, I’d like to introduce you to my Rain Dance Team :) I must note that it’s been a while since I’ve played 5th Gen and a giant chunk of this team was directly taken from my 4th Gen team so bear with me on certain movesets as I do alternate and switch out moves to my liking although these are the most generic everyday situation Rain Dance team movesets I run. As you can tell from the picture it revolves around my homie Kingdra. And yes this team is unfortunately banned as it DOES run on Drizzle Politoed and Swift Swim, although I sometimes just set-up with Swampert to avoid “blah blah blah banned team not fair >:(“.
So first off we lead with our Rotom-W (Modest) w/ Choice Scarf or Choice Specs with a moveset of
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power Fire
- Focus Blast
I usually lead with this guy and Volt Switch whatever I can’t 1HKO with the other moves (95% of the time) straight into Drizzle Politoed (Timid/Modest) w/ Choice Scarf due to his base stats of 70 speed >__>.
- Hydro Pump/Surf
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Grass
Depending on whether or not the other team set up hazards or not I’ll go in with a Rain Dish Tentacruel (Bold) w/ Leftovers packing
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Giga Drain/Ice Beam
With those I can come put Tentacruel safely onto a Toxic Spike and Rapid Spin anything else away. From there I can sit there in permanent rain healing back slowly with rain dish/leftovers and Giga Drain if opponent’s pokemon type permits. For type coverage and for those nasty Grass type (especially Ferrothorn) I use a Technician Scizor (Adamant) w/ Life Orb
- Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Aerial Ace/Acrobatics
I only use acrobatics if I want to pack a Salac or Sitrus with my Scizor instead as Technician still procs with the original base power of 55. Superpower is for those steel types that can be a problem for our water types while Bug Bite eats Psychic and Grass pokemon (literally). Bullet Punch is a must as STAB and Technician both amplify Scizor’s attack into something like a 120 base attack priority move LOL. Even better, a Scizor in rain only has x2 weakness to fire :). And last but not least, we have a Swift Swim Kingdra (Naughty) w/ Life Orb and he packs a quite powerful moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Waterfall
- Hydro Pump
- Outrage
WHAT? ONLY TWO TYPES? but really anything weak against water…down for the count. Anything neutral to water, STAB and Rain Boosts the already high base power move…down for the count. Anything neutral for dragon (which is basically everything) Outrage and Draco Meteor with STAB and x2 Speed from Swift Swim…down for the count. I might be overhyping him but really, anything outside of a both Def and Sp. Def Wall will most likely die.
Alternative:
- Starmie (as an alternative to Rapid Spin Tentacruel, he can pack Thunder :D)
- Kaputops (not really anymore, because he has double ban on his swift swim and sword dance aqua jet combo LOL)
- Ludicolo (Troll run him Attack and watch your friend go wtf as his Sp. Def wall dies)
- Vaporeon (wonderful support, buff for a few turns then rest, Hydration wakes him up right after, buff repeat…when you’re ready wish and baton pass. Watch your wall sweep with maxed attack/sp. att and speed).
