Now I know there has been a post about a rain team but I thought I’d share my version of a rain team.
This team probably won’t work as well as the other one because I like to use unconventional sets with unconventional Pokemon. Which means I like to bring in NU/UU into OU :D Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work but I like it anyway.
The other rain team focused on Kingdra hit-and-run and basically ruining things with draco meteor and such. This team focuses on a Lapras sweep. I made it because people keep saying Lapras sucks and is the worst Pokemon ever and I wanted to prove them wrong. Not going to lie, Lapras doesn’t always work out and is sometimes the weakest part of the team but when things go well, Lapras pulls off a fantastic sweep
Btw, I don’t put up pictures because I’m too lazy to find them.
Dragonite
Modest 252 spe/252 spatk @choice scarf
Ability: Multiscale
-Draco Meteor
-Thunder
-Hurricane
-Surf
Straight forward set. I just use Dragonite as a lead because probably nothing wants to take a modest STAB draco meteor to the face and I can just switch out anyway. This team doesn’t really have an ideal lead or anything and with multiscale, Dragonite can live at least one hit. I can also just throw this guy in as revenge killer later in the game and what not.
Politoed
Calm 252 HP/252 spdef @leftovers
Ability: Drizzle
-Scald
-Ice beam
-Protect
-Toxic
The whole reason this team functions. Special wall and toxic staller. I don’t really like to do stall walls but when I face those annoying wall Pokemons, I resort to toxic stalling. This guy does that.
Parasect
Impish 252 HP/252 def @leftovers
Ability: Dry Skin
-Substitute
-Protect
-Leech Seed
-Toxic
So I’m gonna contradict what I said for Politoed’s blurb here. This guy is pure stall. But Parasect is amazing! Takes a scarf Garchomp’s outrage like a champ. After Dry Skin and leftover recovery, it gains enough HP back to take another outrage. Leech seed and toxic is for stalling duh. It gets destroyed by taunt and Ferrothorns but this guy is still pretty reliable. Plus, it’s funny to see OU sweepers get stalled to death by a Parasect. Rain halves fire’s effectiveness so Parasect’s 4x weakness to fire kind of gets covered there too.
Donphan
Adamant 252 HP/252 atk @leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
-Stealth rock
-Earthquake
-Ice shard
-Rapid spin
Standard Donphan basically. Sets up stealth rock, kills those dragons that get cocky thinking they have a sweep. Sturdy helps life orb stalling. Yup.
Jolteon
Timid 252 spe/252 spatk @expert belt
Ability: Volt absorb
-Volt switch
-Thunder
-Shadowball
-Hidden Power Water
I LOVE to bluff choice items while using expert belt. Especially since most people assume Jolteons are choice specs when they don’t see leftover recovery. Just play this kiddo like he’s specs. When opponent switches out into ground type predicting volt switch, switch out next turn pretending to be specs. Bring him in every once in a while to pretend to be revenge killer but save him till the end. Pretend to lock yourself into a move. Switch moves when opponent gets cocky and tries to set up. Win the game. HP water because in the rain, it gets boosted and ground types are weak to water. Volt absorb to cover the electric weakness of Lapras and Politoed.
Lapras
Adamant 252 HP/252 atk @life orb
Ability: Hydration
-Dragon Dance
-Waterfall
-Ice shard
-Rest
The whole reason I wanted to make this team! Hydration is super cool with Lapras. Rest’s sleep gets cured on the turn with rain up. Game plan is basically dragon dance as much as you like. If you think you’re gonna die, just rest. If you get to +2 and beyond, rest is gonna go first. Ice shard is priority to prevent those mach punches and vacuum waves from ending your sweep. Waterfall for good STAB. I don’t reveal Lapras until end game, which by then I hope I eliminated or hurt Lapras counters enough so Lapras won’t have trouble with them. Proceed to sweep.
Yay! I’ve had moderate success with this team on PO but that’s PO so I’m not sure how well it does with actually good players.
Hello! So this is a simple run-down of what one of my friend’s team is like. It focuses on setting up for Excadrill to sweep hence the cute picture :) I try to make these as simple as I can so bear with me if I don’t explain everything in detail. Ask me questions on these teams if you’d like!
So starting off we have a wonderful, WONDERFUL lead, Ferrothorn (Relaxed) w/ Leftovers or Shed Skin depending on if you’re worried about Magnezone’s Magnet Pull (Covered Later). It will be flaunting these four moves:
Now the reason I use Powerwhip over Gyro ball is the fact that a hard hitting physical grass move is hard to come by and a Steel type move will be covered by another pokemon on this team anyways. You wanna set up Spikes/Stealth Rock (really, there’s all the same >__> it just depends on your opponents). Then go Leech Seed and switch out into any safe pokemon, but if you can you want your Sand Stream Pokemon out ASAP so lets go there. For this team I like a Tyranitar (Jolly or Adamant) w/ Life Orb.
Basic type coverage, nothing really special. Keep this kiddo alive because if you are going against another weather team, you need to switch him in multiple time. Another way you could go is by taking advantage of Ferrothorn’s Leech Seed with Tyranitar (Quiet) w/ Leftovers and take:
This way you Substitute and heal with Leech Seed and Leftovers while you’re able to Focus Punch them in the face. Next we have Swampert as a tanking wall… awkward mix..thing. Swampert (Relaxed) w/ Leftovers:
Why I no take a water move? MIND FUCK THAT’S WHY. You’re running Aqua Tail on your Tyrani anyway remember? But really, if you want to go ahead and take a Surf or Waterfall. Why not take all physical moves? If there’s a Def heavy wall (ex. Blissey), you want to be able to hit it with Sp. Att. The reason I take Protect is because you have leftovers and they are dying in your Sandstorm. Why not waste a turn and heal yourself/damage them? Now here’s a cutie everyone loves. Mr. Wishmaker here boasts wonderful stats and can go anyway you want it to thanks to base 100 stats in everything. Since this team is slightly Attack Heavy I run it Mixed Att like Swampert. Jirachi (Bold) w/ Leftovers:
Thanks to Serene Grace, Iron Head and Thunderbolt’s secondary effects are doubled. To run this Jirachi, Wish + Calm Mind to stall in Sandstorm and Iron Head/ Thunderbolt inbetween. Sooner or later it’ll transform from a support to a sweeper due to it’s bulky Calm Mind buffs. Keep in mind that Jirachi should be used as a support first, sweeper second. Dislike the moveset? Jirachi is very versatile and can run the elemental punches as well as become a full blown wall. Change it to your liking, I just chose this to make it balanced. Next, Magnezone puts more type coverage into your Sand Storm team. He’ll run Magnet Pull Magnezone (Timid) w/ Air Balloon:
This guy is who you’ll be using to protect your Tyranitar. Bulky Steel type (ex. Scizor, Metagross, Empoleon) wants to hurt him? :( SWITCH IN WITH MAGNEZONE AND HIDDEN POWER FIRE HIM. Then switch out with Volt Switch :3 The reason he holds Air Balloon is because most of the time your opponent will want to Earthquake your Tyranitar and therefor Air Balloon gives you a free switch into Magnezone. Last but not least we have our main sweeper, Excadrill! He’s awesome so I’ll jump right into his movepool. You want to run Sand Rush Excadrill (Jolly or Adamant) w/ Choice Band or Life Orb.
Not much to say. Just X-Scissor to take out bulky Bronzongs that can sit in your Sandstorm, and type coverage physical attacks. Sand Rush doubles his speed in Sandstorm, so don’t be afraid of your opponent’s pokemon being able to 1HKO you since Ferrothorn’s spikes/Leech Seed already took a bite out of ‘em and you have amazing Attack anyways.
Well, that’s it for this team. Suggestions or Questions? Ask box! :D
Stolen from Dorkly
Hipster Ferrothorn!
All my pokemon are 100% organic. They exist and they have been trained from eggs hatched over and over again for right abilities/natures and acceptable IVs. Although Pkrs and EV training items and such helped, getting them up to level has been a hassle but I love my team :) It sucks that I don’t actually HAVE a DS. I have to keep borrowing from other people LOL
As the first post, I’d like to introduce you to my Rain Dance Team :) I must note that it’s been a while since I’ve played 5th Gen and a giant chunk of this team was directly taken from my 4th Gen team so bear with me on certain movesets as I do alternate and switch out moves to my liking although these are the most generic everyday situation Rain Dance team movesets I run. As you can tell from the picture it revolves around my homie Kingdra. And yes this team is unfortunately banned as it DOES run on Drizzle Politoed and Swift Swim, although I sometimes just set-up with Swampert to avoid “blah blah blah banned team not fair >:(“.
So first off we lead with our Rotom-W (Modest) w/ Choice Scarf or Choice Specs with a moveset of
I usually lead with this guy and Volt Switch whatever I can’t 1HKO with the other moves (95% of the time) straight into Drizzle Politoed (Timid/Modest) w/ Choice Scarf due to his base stats of 70 speed >__>.
Depending on whether or not the other team set up hazards or not I’ll go in with a Rain Dish Tentacruel (Bold) w/ Leftovers packing
With those I can come put Tentacruel safely onto a Toxic Spike and Rapid Spin anything else away. From there I can sit there in permanent rain healing back slowly with rain dish/leftovers and Giga Drain if opponent’s pokemon type permits. For type coverage and for those nasty Grass type (especially Ferrothorn) I use a Technician Scizor (Adamant) w/ Life Orb
I only use acrobatics if I want to pack a Salac or Sitrus with my Scizor instead as Technician still procs with the original base power of 55. Superpower is for those steel types that can be a problem for our water types while Bug Bite eats Psychic and Grass pokemon (literally). Bullet Punch is a must as STAB and Technician both amplify Scizor’s attack into something like a 120 base attack priority move LOL. Even better, a Scizor in rain only has x2 weakness to fire :). And last but not least, we have a Swift Swim Kingdra (Naughty) w/ Life Orb and he packs a quite powerful moveset
WHAT? ONLY TWO TYPES? but really anything weak against water…down for the count. Anything neutral to water, STAB and Rain Boosts the already high base power move…down for the count. Anything neutral for dragon (which is basically everything) Outrage and Draco Meteor with STAB and x2 Speed from Swift Swim…down for the count. I might be overhyping him but really, anything outside of a both Def and Sp. Def Wall will most likely die.
